This is a picture of an ad that Robrob8 found in his daily delivered newspaper (yes, he still reads the daily news, not everything is online, you know....)

The thing that gets me is: the ad features a Mail-In Rebate of $1.00 for purchasing a package of toilet paper. Now, a dollar is a dollar and money saved is money earned, but if you really look at this carefully... where is the real savings? I mean, it costs 0.49 cents for a postage stamp (I'm in Canada), maybe 0.03 cents for an envelope... then you have to get the letter to the mailbox, so you have transportation expenses. Like, really, how much of a savings does this end up being?? 10 cents or so!!

Geesh!

It's no wonder companies like Mail-in Rebates so much. The retailer can advertise a lower price and the majority of consumers won't request their $1.00 rebate (before costs!).
