Morpheus, Napster, Grokster, Audio Galaxy are all great ways to share files
and download music, movies and other files. But who wants the "spyware
that's included with them? Not Robrob8 and not you, certainly. Who wants what they
read online changed by a third-party program that you didn't even know you
installed? Not I and hopefully not you either! I am getting together a
list of things you need to keep your system safe and running anonymously:
this is just a start, so be patient with me. For the most part it's a list
of links to stuff I find (I don't pass off other's work as mine!). I do have
stuff like changing
Windows Sounds and a page of links to stuff you need
like
WinZip and free Anti-virus programs and media players, so here is more:
-
NEWS FLASH: Learn how to get AudioGalaxy and KaZaa network programs free of
SPYWARE here.
Brought to you by the ever-caring Robrob8! (April 19 2002)
-
Install Grokster without
the "spyware"
here. Spyware is a program or combination of programs that, once
installed, can track your visits to different websites and offer ads to
you as you visit different websites that are not placed there by the web
site owner. Also these programs sell ads on actual web pages and offer
links to merchandise that are not placed there by the web site owner as
well. And many more horrible things. It's a nasty old world out there, we
have to be able to fight back.
Download and run Ad-aware! Of course you could just install
Morpheus but it
isn't as functional as it used to be. After the change from March 1 2002,
anyways.

Is anyone poking into
your computer? Do you have a firewall installed? Check out these nifty
tools here at GRC.com.
You will be able to run all of the best (and free) system security checks!
-
Do you even have a
firewall? Do you know why you need one? If the visit to GRC didn't tell
you why, you're beyond help. Actually, that isn't true: if you are on a
regular dial-up modem connection for the Internet you may not need a
firewall installed because your computer is assigned a new IP address
every time you connect to the Internet. Not like cable or DSL modems that
are "always on" and have the same IP address for long periods of time.
But, it is better to be safe than sorry, so go to
ZoneLabs and get the
free version of Zone Alarm. It'll help keep you safe from prying eyes and
unknown network connections.
