Robrob8's search for free pictures that you can use in your instant messenger program found some great ideas. But the best "Robrob8-style" are here. Free for you. I'll be adding to these every week or so. Follow these directions to use:

How to set up your avatar for MSN Messenger
1. Right click the avatar and click "save picture as"
2. When the dialog box opens, browse to the folder where you want to store this image, and then click OK, usually your "My Pictures" folder
3. From within MSN Messenger, you can import your display picture: Tools> Options> Change My Picture. (Images are 96x96 pixel size, gif format.
